Wyoming law enforcement agencies are working cooperatively on unsolved missing person and homicide cases located throughout the State of Wyoming. A brief summary of each missing person case and unsolved homicide case is provided. Anyone with information regarding any of these cases is urged to contact the law enforcement agency of jurisdiction or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.  


Case Summaries

Missing Person, July 28, 2014, Niobrara County, Wyoming:  Kenneth Jay VanBuskirk was last seen on July 28, 2014, but has not been seen since. Kenneth VanBuskirk is 54 years old, 5'7" tall, approximately 145pounds, with grey hair and hazel eyes.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Lusk Police Department at (307) 334-4055 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, discovered January 9, 2014, Park County, Wyoming:  The Park County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation are requesting assistance in the identification of an unidentified male found in Park County, Wyoming.  The male is described as a Caucasian or possibly light Hispanic, less than 35 years of age, approximately 5’4” - 5’6” in height, 180-200 pounds in weight.  The male was wearing Ariat brown lace-up work boots; blue short sleeve shirt; Levi blue jeans; brown belt buckle with a stitched horse head and matching belt with similar stitching.  The male appears to have been decapitated and amputated post-mortem.  If you have information, please contact Park County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Joe Torczon at (307) 527-8700 or Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent Juliet Vibe at (307) 777-7545.

 Missing Person, June 15, 2013, Campbell County, Wyoming:  Shannon Nicole McIntyre McClure was last seen on June 15, 2013, but has not been seen since. Shannon McClure is 23 years old, 5'4" tall, approximately 230 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Campbell County Sheriff's Office at (307) 682-7271 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, June 3, 2011, Weston County, Wyoming:  On the morning of June 3, 2011, Katherine Coffee, age 35, was found deceased by a co-worker inside her residence, 3234 Section Line Road, Newcastle, Wyoming.  Coffee transferred from Texas to Wyoming approximately three months earlier and worked for the Natural Resources Conversation Service as a District Conservationist.  Coffee was determined to have been shot to death while in her residence.  There is a possibility of a monetary reward for information leading directly to the arrest of the suspect or suspects involved in this homicide.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Suspicious Circumstances, September 9th, 2010, Albany County, Wyoming:  On September 9, 2010, the remains of Rosella Lovell were found in a remote area in Albany County, Wyoming.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Albany County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 721-2526 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, June 21, 2001, Laramie County, Wyoming:   On June 21, 2001, an unknown male suspect shot James Kamai to death on West College Drive approximately 75 yards west of the South Greeley Highway.  Kamai and the suspect may have been involved in a traffic dispute at the time of the murder.  Based on witness information, the department is continuing to look for three possible vehicles used by the suspect: a small black pickup with an older white camper shell, the pickup had gray primer spots on the passenger door and possibly on the passenger side; a small red pickup with a white camper shell; and a normal-size black pickup with gray primer spots on the passenger door and possibly on the passenger side.   Anyone with information regarding the possible suspect or vehicle is requested to call the Laramie County Sheriffs Department at 307-633-4700.

Homicide, February 1, 2000, Platte County, Wyoming:  On the morning of February 1, 2000, the body of Camilo Moreno, age 35, was discovered near the Grey Rocks Road approximately 8 miles east of Wheatland, Wyoming.  Moreno suffered multiple stab and cut wounds.  All identification had been removed in an attempt to conceal his identity.  Preliminary investigation indicates his body was dumped at the location where it was found and was there for a period of several weeks.  Moreno was a resident of Westminster, Colorado and was reported missing in November, 1999. Homicide, June 4, 1999, Platte County, Wyoming:  On June 4th, 1999, the body of Larry Peterson, age 52, was discovered fatally wounded at a cabin located approximately fifteen miles west of Wheatland, Wyoming on Palmer Canyon Road.  The investigation has disclosed Peterson was shot and killed on the evening of June 4th, shortly after arriving at the cabin.  Should you have any information regarding this matter please contact the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181 or the Platte County Sheriff's Office at (307) 322-2331.

Homicide, August 30, 1997, Lincoln County, Wyoming:  On August 30, 1997, the body of Robert Lee Thornock, age 41, was found in Strawberry Creek in Lincoln County, Wyoming. Missing Person, July 24, 1997, Fremont County, Wyoming:  On July 24, 1997, Amy Wroe Bechtel, age 24, disappeared while jogging the Loop Road area between Lander and South Pass in Fremont County, Wyoming.  Her car was found parked along the road.  An extensive search of the area has failed to yield clues as to her location. Homicide, June 26, 1996, Crook County, Wyoming:  On June 26, 1996, the body of Mary Virginia Webb, aka Mary Garcia, age 19, was found in a culvert under U.S. Highway 212 in Crook County, Wyoming.  She had suffered three (3) gunshot wounds to the head.  Webb was a resident of Wenatchee, Washington and was traveling to Conway, Arkansas. WEBB was last seen in Billings, Montana and had been reported missing by her family on June 13, 1996. Homicide, July 13, 1990, Sheridan County, Wyoming:  On July 13, 1990, the body of Jackie Lee McLean, age 47, was found near mile marker 27 on the east side of Interstate 90 in Sheridan County, Wyoming.  He had been shot eight times in the head.  McLean was last seen in Rapid City, South Dakota on July 8, 1990.  He had left Rapid City for Hill City, South Dakota. Missing Person, April 17, 1989, Fremont County, Wyoming:  Kathleen Pehringer was last seen on April 17, 1989 but has not been seen since.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Fremont County Sheriff's Office at (307) 332-1000 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, October 18, 1988, Jackson County, Colorado and Carbon County, Wyoming:  On October 18, 1988, the victim was found on Platte River Road, East of Colorado State Route 125, approximately 17 miles north of Walden, Jackson County, Colorado.  The victim had multiple gun shot wounds to the chest, back and a single gunshot wound to the head.  Subsequent investigation indicates the victim may have been killed in Carbon County, Wyoming and the body left in Colorado.  No identification was found on the body and attempts to identify the victim through missing persons, fingerprints, photographs and information flyers have been unsuccessful.  The victim is a white male, 140-150 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes, approximately 21 to 31 years of age.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Jackson County, Colorado, Sheriff's Office at (303) 723-4242, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation at (303) 239-4211, the Carbon County Wyoming Sheriff's Office at (307) 324 2776, or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, May 3, 1987, Laramie County, Wyoming:  On May 8, 1987 at 6:14 p.m., Everitt C. Syferd, age 84, was found dead in his home at 1910 East 14 th St. in Cheyenne, Wyoming.   Syferd was found lying on the floor just outside the bathroom in the Northwest corner of the living room.  A metal scoop-type shovel was found with blood on it and is believed to be the murder weapon.  Syferd died of blunt trauma to the head.  The phone line had been cut and pulled out of the wall.  The phone company reported a call was made at 5:47 p.m. on May 7, 1987, but could not connect.  Syferd was last seen alive by relatives on May 6, 1987 at 7:00 p.m.  No money was found in Syferd's house or his wallet which was found in a pair of pants in the kitchen.  The only other thing missing from the house was a round leather flip-open type coin purse.  Any information regarding this unsolved homicide should be directed to the Detective Bureau at the Cheyenne Police Department at (307) 637-6500 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Missing Person, August,1985, Sweetwater County, Wyoming:  In August, 1985, David Vernon Lovely, age 19, was riding a maroon 1978 Model 1100 Yamaha motorcycle bearing California license 8N3477 fitted with saddle bags and a luggage rack, was traveling from California to Massachusetts with his family.  They became separated in southwest Wyoming.  Lovely was reported to be carrying about $150 in cash at the time of his disappearance.  Lovely is described as a white male, 6’ 4” in height, 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.  He has surgical scars from extensive childhood kidney surgery.  He was last seen wearing a three button white pullover polo type shirt, brown cotton pants, and sneakers.  He also had a green army jacket along with a red nylon jacket.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 872-6350 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, October 20th, 1985, Albany County, Wyoming:  On October, 20th 1985, at approximately 0510 hrs, Shelli Wiley, a 22 year old white female, was found dead in her west Laramie apartment located at 218 S Taylor #1.  Shelli Wiley was stabbed multiple times and her apartment was set on fire, causing extensive damage.  The assailant(s) fled prior to the arrival of police and fire units.  Shelli was last seen alive at her apartment by a family member and a friend at approximately 0110 hrs.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Laramie Police Department Detective Division at (307) 721-3563 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, May 12, 1984, Teton County, Wyoming:  On May 12, 1984, Jon William Rice, age 26, was found in his residence located in the Twinberry Condominiums on Highway 390, Jackson, Teton County, Wyoming.  Jon Rice was bound and had a single gunshot wound to the head.  There were no signs of forced entry to the residence.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at (303) 733-1430, Teton County Sheriff's Office at (307) 733-4052, or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, October 21, 1983, Teton County, Wyoming:  On October 14, 1983, a car belonging to Eric James Cooper, age 23, was found abandoned at a liquor store in Jackson, Teton County, Wyoming.  On October 21, 1983, Eric Cooper was reported missing.  On August 14, 1986, his body was found by hikers near Signal Mountain Summit Road and the Teton Park Road junction.  This is approximately 45 miles North of Jackson, Wyoming.  The victim had a single gunshot wound to the head, had been wrapped in plastic and buried.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at (303) 733-1430, Teton County Sheriff's Office at (307) 733-4052, or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, August 10, 1983, Campbell County, Wyoming:  On August 10, 1983, the remains of Mary Shondel aka Petersen were discovered by Wyoming Highway Department employees in the State gravel pit on North Highway 59, Campbell County, Wyoming.   Mary Shondel was the victim of a homicide that was estimated to have occurred approximately one (1) year prior to the discovery of her body.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Campbell County Sheriff's Office at (307) 682-7271, or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, November 13, 1982, Sheridan County, Wyoming:  On November 13, 1982, Susie K. Missing Persons, November 8, 1981, Rock Springs Wyoming:  On November 8, 1981, Amber Scholz disappeared from the Rock Springs area.  She was last seen outside her apartment at approximately 3:30 am on 11-8-81.  Scholz's apartment showed no sign of a struggle, and several personal items were left behind.  She was in a child custody dispute with her ex-husband John Burkhardt at the time of her disappearance.  Scholz was originally from Hamilton, Ohio and was also known to visit the Denver area from time to time.  Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the Rock Springs PD at 307-352-1575, or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at 307-777-7181.

Homicide, August 6, 1981, Converse County, Wyoming:  On August 6, 1981, Belinda May Grantham, age 20, was found in the North Platte River near a bridge in Glenrock, Converse County, Wyoming.  She had a rope tied around her neck weighted to a rock.  She had been strangled.  She was last seen at the Natrona County Fair in Casper, Wyoming.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Converse County Sheriff's Office at (307) 358-4700 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Missing Persons, September 12, 1980, Fremont County, Wyoming:  On September 12, 1980, Virginia Uden, age 32, and her two sons, Reagan Uden, age 10, and Richard Uden, age 11, disappeared in the Riverton, Wyoming area.  She was last seen in a station wagon with her sons when she left her mother's residence in Riverton, Wyoming at approximately 1:30 p.m. The station wagon was found on October 4, 1980 near Dickson Park Road and Trout Creek Canyon in the Wind River Canyon area in Fremont County, Wyoming.  Blood matching the blood type of Virginia Uden was found in the car.  Virginia Uden and her sons have never been found.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Fremont County Sheriff's Office at (307) 332-1000 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, January 25, 1979, Weston County, Wyoming:  On the morning of January 25, 1979, Charles Norton was found deceased at the Peerless Bar in Newcastle, Wyoming. Homicide, April 15, 1978, Platte County, Wyoming:  In February, 1978, Stella Ellen McClean, age 45, a resident of Gering, Nebraska, disappeared at a restaurant in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  Her decapitated body was found near Interstate 25 in Platte County, Wyoming on April 15, 1978, approximately two (2) miles North of Wheatland, Wyoming.  No clothing or identification was found with the body.  In March, 1983, the body was identified as that of Stella McClean.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Platte County Sheriff's Office at (307) 322-2331, Scottsbluff County, Nebraska, Sheriff's Office at (308) 436-6667, the Nebraska State Patrol at (308 632-1211, or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Missing Person, July 4th, 1974, Carbon County, Wyoming:  Carlene Brown has been missing since July 4th, 1974. Carlene Brown was last seen with her friend Christy Gross while visiting the Little Britches Rodeo in Rawlins, Wyoming. Missing Person, August 4th, 1974, Carbon County, Wyoming:  Deborah Rae Meyer has been missing since August 4th, 1974. Deborah Meyer left a relative's home in Rawlins, Wyoming to go see a movie and has not been seen or heard from since. Anyone with information about Deborah Rae Meyer is urged to contact the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 324-2776.

Missing Person, April 26, 1974, Fremont County, Wyoming:  Larry Marvin Morris, age 24, has been missing since 1974.  Morris was employed in the Riverton, Wyoming area as a seismograph worker.  He was last seen in Riverton on April 26, 1974.  Morris was from Tulsa, Oklahoma.  His vehicle, a green 1966 Ford pickup with Oklahoma license plates, was later recovered in California.  In May, 1974, two men were arrested with credit cards and other items that belonged to Morris.  Subsequent investigation indicated his credit cards and property were used in California, Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming.  No body was ever found.  No signs of foul play were found at the Morris residence in Riverton, Wyoming.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Riverton Police Department at (307) 856-4891 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

Homicide, April 16th, 1972, Albany County, Wyoming: On April 17th, 1972 at 0755 hours, the body of Sharon Reher, a 20 year old white female, was found in her apartment, located at 810 Kearney St. in Laramie, Wyoming.  Reher had last been seen alive on April 16th, 1972 at 0420 hours when she was dropped off outside of her apartment.  Reher’s throat had been severed and the scene was suggestive of a sexual assault.  Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Laramie Police Department Detective Division at (307) 721-3563 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.
