Homicides

Homicide, August, 2004, Sweetwater County, Wyoming: On the evening of August 30th, 2004, a Mexican National identified as Moises Gonzales, age 39, was found dead by his employer in the small camp trailer he was residing in next to the shop in which he worked. Homicide, February 2003, Laramie County, Wyoming: Shawny Smith, a 32-year-old mother of two living in Cheyenne, was beaten and raped. In February 2003, her body was found in a farmer's field in Weld County, Colorado. Homicide, October 2001, Mills, Natrona County, Wyoming. On October 20, 2001, in the early morning hours, a Mills Police Officer, on patrol in the eastern portion of Mills, Wyoming, observed a person laying in the parking lot of the Wagon Wheel Roller Skating Rink, 305 Vanhorn Avenue, Mills, Wyoming. Upon approaching the subject, the officer discovered 27 year old Daniel "Danny" Moser laying face down in the parking lot with life threatening injuries. Daniel Moser was transported the Wyoming Medical Center, but succumbed to the injuries he sustained. Danny Moser was a resident of the neighboring City of Casper, Wyoming, and had visited Casper bars on the night before the murder. Homicide, June 21, 2001, Laramie County, Wyoming: On June 21, 2001, an unknown male suspect shot James Kamai to death on West College Drive approximately 75 yards west of the South Greeley Highway. Kamai and the suspect may have been involved in a traffic dispute at the time of the murder. Based on witness information, the department is continuing to look for three possible vehicles used by the suspect: a small black pickup with an older white camper shell, the pickup had gray primer spots on the passenger door and possibly on the passenger side; a small red pickup with a white camper shell; and a normal-size black pickup with gray primer spots on the passenger door and possibly on the passenger side. Homicide, February 1, 2000, Platte County, Wyoming: On the morning of February 1, 2000, the body of Camilo Moreno, age 35, was discovered near the Grey Rocks Road approximately 8 miles east of Wheatland, Wyoming. Moreno suffered multiple stab and cut wounds. All identification had been removed in an attempt to conceal his identity. Preliminary investigation indicates his body was dumped at the location where it was found and was there for a period of several weeks. Moreno was a resident of Westminster, Colorado and was reported missing in November, 1999. His car was found near Castle Rock, Colorado just off Interstate 25 in November, 1999. Homicide, June 4, 1999, Platte County, Wyoming: On June 4th, 1999, the body of Larry Peterson, age 52, was discovered fatally wounded at a cabin located approximately fifteen miles west of Wheatland, Wyoming on Palmer Canyon Road. The investigation has disclosed Peterson was shot and killed on the evening of June 4th, shortly after arriving at the cabin. Homicide, May, 1999, Homicide, Sweetwater County, Wyoming (Davida Peterson) On the evening of May 8, 1999, unknown suspects entered the V-1 Convenience store and shot 41 year old Davida Peterson. Between March of 1999 and July of 1999 several similar robberies were committed in Utah and Idaho. Suspects in those robberies were believed to be driving an early 70's model, two toned Chevy pickup truck. Homicide, August 30, 1997, Lincoln County, Wyoming: On August 30, 1997, the body of Robert Lee Thornock, age 41, was found in Strawberry Creek in Lincoln County, Wyoming. Thornock escaped from the Cache County Jail in Logan, Utah in February, 1997. Homicide, June 26, 1996, Crook County, Wyoming: On June 26, 1996, the body of Mary Virginia Webb, aka Mary Garcia, age 19, was found in a culvert under U.S. Highway 212 in Crook County, Wyoming. She had suffered three (3) gunshot wounds to the head. Webb was a resident of Wenatchee, Washington and was traveling to Conway, Arkansas. WEBB was last seen in Billings, Montana and had been reported missing by her family on June 13, 1996. Homicide, April 13, 1992, Sheridan County, Wyoming: On April 13, 1992, an unidentified person was discovered in Sheridan County, Wyoming. They are believed to be a Caucasian female, approximately 110 to 115 pounds with brown hair. The female has given birth at least once. Homicide, March 1, 1992, Sweetwater County, Wyoming: On March 1, 1992 a unidentified female was discovered in Sweetwater County, Wyoming. The female is believed to be Caucasian or Hispanic/Latino, approximately 24 to 32 years of age, around 5'8", 125 pounds, with dark brown or black hair and brown eyes. The female has a tattoo of a rose on her left breast, a Cesarean section scar on her abdomen, and a one-inch scar on her left calf. Homicide, July 13, 1990, Sheridan County, Wyoming: On July 13, 1990, the body of Jackie Lee McLean, age 47, was found near mile marker 27 on the east side of Interstate 90 in Sheridan County, Wyoming. He had been shot eight times in the head. McLean was last seen in Rapid City, South Dakota on July 8, 1990. He had left Rapid City for Hill City, South Dakota. Homicide, October 18, 1988, Jackson County, Colorado and Carbon County, Wyoming: On October 18, 1988, the victim was found on Platte River Road, East of Colorado State Route 125, approximately 17 miles north of Walden, Jackson County, Colorado. The victim had multiple gun shot wounds to the chest, back and a single gunshot wound to the head. Subsequent investigation indicates the victim may have been killed in Carbon County, Wyoming and the body left in Colorado. No identification was found on the body and attempts to identify the victim through missing persons, fingerprints, photographs and information flyers have been unsuccessful. The victim is a white male, 140-150 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes, approximately 21 to 31 years of age. Homicide, May 3, 1987, Laramie County, Wyoming: On May 8, 1987 at 6:14 p.m., Everitt C. Syferd, age 84, was found dead in his home at 1910 East 14 th St. in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Syferd was found lying on the floor just outside the bathroom in the Northwest corner of the living room. A metal scoop-type shovel was found with blood on it and is believed to be the murder weapon. Syferd died of blunt trauma to the head. The phone line had been cut and pulled out of the wall. The phone company reported a call was made at 5:47 p.m. on May 7, 1987, but could not connect. Syferd was last seen alive by relatives on May 6, 1987 at 7:00 p.m. No money was found in Syferd's house or his wallet which was found in a pair of pants in the kitchen. The only other thing missing from the house was a round leather flip-open type coin purse. Homicide, October 20th, 1985, Albany County, Wyoming: On October, 20th 1985, at approximately 0510 hrs, Shelli Wiley, a 22 year old white female, was found dead in her west Laramie apartment located at 218 S Taylor #1. Shelli Wiley was stabbed multiple times and her apartment was set on fire, causing extensive damage. The assailant(s) fled prior to the arrival of police and fire units. Shelli was last seen alive at her apartment by a family member and a friend at approximately 0110 hrs. Homicide, May 12, 1984, Teton County, Wyoming: On May 12, 1984, Jon William Rice, age 26, was found in his residence located in the Twinberry Condominiums on Highway 390, Jackson, Teton County, Wyoming. Jon Rice was bound and had a single gunshot wound to the head. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence. Homicide, October 21, 1983, Teton County, Wyoming: On October 14, 1983, a car belonging to Eric James Cooper, age 23, was found abandoned at a liquor store in Jackson, Teton County, Wyoming. On October 21, 1983, Eric Cooper was reported missing. On August 14, 1986, his body was found by hikers near Signal Mountain Summit Road and the Teton Park Road junction. This is approximately 45 miles North of Jackson, Wyoming. The victim had a single gunshot wound to the head, had been wrapped in plastic and buried. Homicide, August 10, 1983, Campbell County, Wyoming: On August 10, 1983, the remains of Mary Shondel aka Petersen were discovered by Wyoming Highway Department employees in the State gravel pit on North Highway 59, Campbell County, Wyoming. Mary Shondel was the victim of a homicide that was estimated to have occurred approximately one (1) year prior to the discovery of her body. Homicide, November 13, 1982, Sheridan County, Wyoming: On November 13, 1982, Susie K. Weaver, age 72, was found in her home in Sheridan, Sheridan County, Wyoming. She had been sexually assaulted and beaten to death. Homicide, August 6, 1981, Converse County, Wyoming: On August 6, 1981, Belinda May Grantham, age 20, was found in the North Platte River near a bridge in Glenrock, Converse County, Wyoming. She had a rope tied around her neck weighted to a rock. She had been strangled. She was last seen at the Natrona County Fair in Casper, Wyoming. Homicide, July, 1981, Sweetwater County, Wyoming On July 1, 1981, 55 year old L.G. Strowbridge was found murdered beneath the east bound lane of I-80 at the Pilot Butte exit in Rock Springs. He was a transient traveling east to return to his home state of Michigan at the time of his death. Homicide, January 31, 1981, Campbell County, Wyoming:

Homicide, June, 1980, Sweetwater County, Wyoming On June 4, 1980, 65 year old Lee Romero, was murdered by a drive by around 3:00am near Bunning Park in Rock Springs. The vehicle driver stated two unknown Hispanic males pulled up next to them in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo or similar car, fired several rounds and fled the scene. The vehicle was driven by a blonde female. Homicide, January 25, 1979, Weston County, Wyoming: On the morning of January 25, 1979, Charles Norton was found deceased at the Peerless Bar in Newcastle, Wyoming. Homicide, April 15, 1978, Platte County, Wyoming: In February, 1978, Stella Ellen McClean, age 45, a resident of Gering, Nebraska, disappeared at a restaurant in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Her decapitated body was found near Interstate 25 in Platte County, Wyoming on April 15, 1978, approximately two (2) miles North of Wheatland, Wyoming. No clothing or identification was found with the body. In March, 1983, the body was identified as that of Stella McClean. Missing Person, September 12, 2021, Yellowstone National Park: Kim H Crumbo, age 74, was last seen in Yellowstone National Park on September 12, 2021. He is a white male, approximately 5'10", 200 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. He is believed to be deceased at this time. Missing Person, October 20, 2018, Sweetwater County, Wyoming: Terry J Meador, age 74, was last heard from on October 20, 2018. He is reported as a white male, approximately 5'10" with blue eyes and grey hair. Terry may have a rifle with him and be south of Sage Creek hunting area wearing an orange jacket. His vehicle was located unattended in that area, and a search was conducted with no results. Missing Person, January 8, 2018, Sheridan County, Wyoming: Kyle Jay Ellis, 29 year old, was last seen on January 8, 2018 in Greybull, Wyoming. Ellis was at Bear Lodge in the Big Horn Mountains and spoke to his father on the phone. Information obtained indicated he got a ride from Bear Lodge to Greybull, Wyoming by a female who gave Ellis $20. Ellis has not been heard from or seen since. Ellis has a propensity to take religious journeys for weeks at a time, with two weeks being his longest. Ellis has traveled as far as Texas and the west coast on these journeys. During previous journeys, Ellis made contact with his family through Facebook messenger. Ellis does not carry any form of identification or electronics on him. He does not generally dress for weather conditions and always wears a white tee shirt. Ellis has various tattoos, including a pin up girls on his right and left shoulders, “sex drugs rock n roll” on his abdomen and a sleeved left forearm.

Missing Person, October 23, 2016, Laramie County: Silas Anthony Ojeda, age 10 months, was last seen on October 23, 2016 in Laramie County, Wyoming. He is a black male, approximately 2'5", 18 pounds, with brown eyes and black curly hair. He wears 9-12 months size of clothing. Missing Person, October 6, 2014, Natrona County, Wyoming: Kristi Lynn Richardson was last seen on October 6, 2014 in Casper, Wyoming. Richardson is 5’ 4” tall and weighs less than 100 lbs. Richardson has shoulder length, dark brown hair.

Richardson is believed to have disappeared between the hours of 7:30 pm - 11:30 pm on the evening of October 6th, 2014. Family and co-workers became concerned when she did not arrive at work at Richardson Trucking the following morning. Richardson and her late husband began the trucking company in 1979 and Richardson still managed the day to day operations of the business. For Richardson, not showing up for work was highly unusual. Police found a cell phone in her bed, her purse with a large amount of cash, identification on the kitchen counter after her disappearance.

The Richardson family has offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons involved in her disappearance.

Missing Person, September 19, 2009, Teton County, Wyoming: Katherine Schupp Major, age 53, was last seen in Teton County, Wyoming. She is a white female, approximately 5'5", with green eyes, brown hair and a scar on her lower right abdomen. She was last seen at a hotel wearing an off-white cloudveil hoodie with embroidery on the left arm. Missing Person, June 16, 2009, Yellowstone National Park: Nicholas Jeffrey Mostert, age 20, was last seen on June 16, 2009, in Yellowstone National Park. He is a white male, approximately 5'10", with green eyes and brown hair. He was last seen near the Yellowstone River at the brink of lower falls. He was seen wearing an olive green hoody and white t-shirt. Missing Person, January 24, 2006, Campbell County, Wyoming: Roy George Vavra has been missing since January 24, 2006. Vavra had agreed to go hunting with a friend, however, when the friend arrived, Vavra was no longer at his residence. Vavra left a note saying he would be back by 11:00 am. Vavra was sighted approximately two miles away from his residence leaving a convenience store at Highway 50 and Force Road, Gillette, Wyoming, with an unknown white male, approximately mid-30s with short blonde hair, driving a small white pickup truck similar to a For Courier. All of Vavra's personal belongings were left behind. Missing Person, August, 2004, Goshen County, Wyoming: Renee Diane Yeargain has been missing from Torrington, Wyoming since August 10, 2004. Yeargain's boyfriend of three years stated she abandoned him and her four children on August 10, 2004. He stated she took a grocery sack full of clothing with her and refused to say where she was going. Two days later, on August 12, 2004, Yeargain's white 1987 Pontiac Subaru station wagon was found at a rest stop between Cheyenne and Torrington, Wyoming. Her keys, cellular phone, and her purse, which contained her wallet, checkbook and other items, were inside the vehicle. No money was found and Yeargain's tattoo kit and clothing were also missing. Missing Person, February 15, 2004, Natrona County, Wyoming: Justin Phillip Harris was last seen at his residence on February 15, 2004. Justin is in need of medication which he does not have with him. Missing Person, February 11, 1999, Sublette County, Wyoming: Tracy Jensen was last seen on February 11, 1999 wearing jeans, tank top, and work boots. Missing Person, October 19, 1997, Campbell County, Wyoming: Patrick Lee Ghering was last seen in Gillette, Wyoming on October 19, 1997. His fourteen year-old girlfriend, Amanda Gallion, disappeared on October 13, 1997. When questioned about Amanda's disappearance, Ghering said he had last seen her at 7:15 a.m. the day she vanished. Police believed he was concealing her. Six days later, Ghering also disappeared. His vehicle was found abandoned on the wrong side of the road, facing the wrong direction. He was never seen again. Missing Person, October 13, 1997, Campbell County, Wyoming: Amanda Dawn Gallion was last seen walking to school during the morning hours of October 13, 1997 in Gillette, Wyoming. She never arrived for classes that day and has not been heard from since. Missing Person, July 24, 1997, Fremont County, Wyoming: On July 24, 1997, Amy Wroe Bechtel, age 24, disappeared while jogging the Loop Road area between Lander and South Pass in Fremont County, Wyoming. Her car was found parked along the road. An extensive search of the area has failed to yield clues as to her location. Amy Wroe Bechtel is a white female, 115 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes. Missing Person, December 8, 1990, Natrona County, Wyoming: Lynn Lennette Bush, age 26, was last seen on December 8, 1990, in Natrona County, Wyoming. She is a white female, approximately 5'10", with hazel eyes, brown hair and a scar on her right knee. She was last seen wearing pink knee length nylon winter coat, pastel blue sweatshirt, acid wash blue jeans and pink tennis shoes. Her husband has been convicted of her murder, but her body has not been located at this time. Missing Person, April 17, 1989, Fremont County, Wyoming: Kathleen Pehringer, age 42 at the time of disappearance, 74 at this time, was last seen on April 17, 1989 in Riverton but has not been seen since. She is reported to be a white female, approximately 5'2" with brown eyes and brown hair at the time of disappearance. Kathleen went missing from her residence and hasn't been seen since. Missing Person, August,1985, Sweetwater County, Wyoming: In August, 1985, David Vernon Lovely, age 19, was riding a maroon 1978 Model 1100 Yamaha motorcycle bearing California license 8N3477 fitted with saddle bags and a luggage rack, was traveling from California to Massachusetts with his family. They became separated in southwest Wyoming. Lovely was reported to be carrying about $150 in cash at the time of his disappearance. Lovely is described as a white male, 6’ 4” in height, 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He has surgical scars from extensive childhood kidney surgery. He was last seen wearing a three button white pullover polo type shirt, brown cotton pants, and sneakers. He also had a green army jacket along with a red nylon jacket. Missing Person, January 6, 1983, Carbon County, Wyoming: On January 6, 1983, John Michael Boutin, age 24 at the time of disappearance, 63 at this time, was reported missing from Rawlins, Wyoming. He is reported to be a white male, approximately 5'8", with brown eyes and brown hair at the time of disappearance. He has tattoos on his upper left arm, and a scar under his left eye. He is suspected to be a victim of homicide. Missing Persons, November 8, 1981, Rock Springs Wyoming: On November 8, 1981, Amber Scholz, age 21 at time of disappearance, 61 at this time, disappeared from the Rock Springs area. She is reported to be a white female, approximately 5'4", with brown eyes and brown hair at the time of disappearance. She was last seen outside her apartment at approximately 3:30 am on 11-8-81. Scholz's apartment showed no sign of a struggle, and several personal items were left behind. She was in a child custody dispute with her ex-husband John Burkhardt at the time of her disappearance. Scholz was originally from Hamilton, Ohio and was also known to visit the Denver area from time to time. Foul play was suspected in her disappearance. Missing Person, November 11, 1980, Sweetwater County, Wyoming: David Richard Williams, 33 year old at time of disappearance, 74 at current time, was last seen in a brown Chevy Blazer traveling south on HWY 789 from Creston Junction on November 11, 1980. He is reported as a white male, approximately 6'2" with blue eyes and brown hair, and seen wearing a button down shirt, jeans, and large cowboy boots. David wore dark colored plastic framed glasses. He is believed to have been a victim of foul play. Missing Persons, September 12, 1980, Fremont County, Wyoming: On September 12, 1980, Virginia Uden, age 32, and her two sons, Reagan Uden, age 10, and Richard Uden, age 11, disappeared in the Riverton, Wyoming area. She was last seen in a station wagon with her sons when she left her mother's residence in Riverton, Wyoming at approximately 1:30 p.m. The station wagon was found on October 4, 1980 near Dickson Park Road and Trout Creek Canyon in the Wind River Canyon area in Fremont County, Wyoming. Gerald Uden pleaded guilty to killing Virginia Uden and her sons, however, their bodies have never been found. Missing Person, August 4th, 1974, Carbon County, Wyoming: Deborah Rae Meyer, age 16 at the time of disappearance 63 currently, has been missing since August 4th, 1974. She is a White female, approximately 5'5" with brown eyes and brown hair at the time of disappearance. She has a birthmark on her upper left ear that resembles a wart. Deborah Meyer left a relative's home in Rawlins, Wyoming to go see a movie and has not been seen or heard from since. Missing Person, July 4th, 1974, Carbon County, Wyoming: Carlene Brown, age 19 at the time of disappearance, 66 at this time, has been missing since July 4th, 1974. She is reported to be a white female, approximately 5'3" with brown eyes and red hair at the time of disappearance. She has scars on both big toes. Carlene Brown was last seen with her friend Christy Gross while visiting the Little Britches Rodeo in Rawlins, Wyoming. Missing Person, April 26, 1974, Fremont County, Wyoming: Larry Marvin Morris, age 24 at the time of disappearance, 72 at this time, has been missing since 1974. He is a white male, approximately 5'11", with brown eyes and at the time of disappearance brown hair. He is reported to wear glasses with brown plastic frames. Morris was employed in the Riverton, Wyoming area as a seismograph worker. He was last seen in Riverton on April 26, 1974, on his way to Jackson. Morris was from Tulsa, Oklahoma. His vehicle, a green 1966 Ford pickup with Oklahoma license plates, was later recovered in California. In May, 1974, two men were arrested with credit cards and other items that belonged to Morris. Subsequent investigation indicated his credit cards and property were used in California, Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming. No body was ever found. No signs of foul play were found at the Morris residence in Riverton, Wyoming.
