The Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) unit is responsible for receiving and analyzing arrest and applicant fingerprint cards. The ABIS unit processes approximately 3,000 applicant fingerprint cards and 1,400 criminal arrest fingerprint cards per month.

For law enforcement agencies: Here is a link for ABIS livescan fingerprint training. Here is an article on capturing palm prints. Here is a link to the FBI's Fingerprint Training Website. If you need to order FBI cards (red/criminal, blue/applicant and palm cards) you can order them from this link: https://forms.fbi.gov/cjis-fingerprinting-supply-requisition-form
For any agency or entity who wishes to purchase a digital fingerprint machine, often referred to as a livescan machine, DCI asks that it is a certified product from the FBI’s Certified Product List. Please keep in mind that you will also need to purchase a printer from the FBI’s Certified Product List. At this time, DCI does not accept electronic submissions for general employment or licensing background checks, so a printer is essential.
Here is the link to the FBI’s Product List: https://fbibiospecs.fbi.gov/certifications-1/cpl. You will need to purchase a ‘livescan system’ capable of capturing a full set of fingerprints to be printed to the standard FD 258 Applicant Fingerprint Card. At the top of the FBI Product List page is an FAQ that will help you navigate the lists.
For questions, you can reach out to DCI’s ABIS section at 307-777-6328.
