Latent Prints
Latent Fingerprint
Latent Print: This discipline processes and examines items to locate, visualize and preserve friction ridge detail; be it finger, palm, or foot for comparison with known impressions to effect identification.
Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS): is a computer system which digitizes unknown latent fingerprints entered into the ABIS system, searches the unknown latent fingerprint against millions of prints on file to generate candidate lists for comparison. The State of Wyoming is a member of the Western Identification Network (WIN/ABIS) that is comprised of the member states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. A latent fingerprint search can be conducted against the criminal and civil records of each of these states. Additional searches can also be made through NGI, the FBI’s national fingerprint database.
